About Superheroes: Redefined

Superheroes: Redefined, is the seventh art exhibition by Qing Gallery dedicated to showcase the talents of Karwai Chan, a self-taught artist based in Malaysia. Chan had her upbringing in the city of Hong Kong, China and she moved to Malaysia to pursue her passion in art. Chan allows her emotions to take her on a cruise as she lets her natural forté capture the very essence of life’s challenging moments with intense emotions linked to them. Her seamless transition of emotions to canvas is manifested in the fine details of potraits and deep unspoken energy in her abstracts.

Karwai Chan

Superheroes: Redefined, is the first solo exhibition of Chan’s — showcasing her one year project of the admiration, honour and a salute to superheroes from different universes. The spur of inspiration behind this special collection is Chan’s personal breakthrough from her ordeal of being a victim of bully in her younger years. A bitter experience she had to bear throughout her life which has now been manifested into pure strength and onto canvas. In this collection, she adds a playful notion of incorporating neon and glow-in-the-dark paint makes the collection all the more modern and edgy and one-of-a-kind.

Chan’s art is being commissioned by large, publicly listed companies around the world. Her recent artwork of tribute to frontliner heroes during the Covid-19 pandemic was sold for an estimate of One Million Malaysia and was appraised highly by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. Her eccentric style particularly catches the interest of art collectors and limited edition supercars. Chan’s clients range from entrepreneurs, celebrities like Gordon Ramsay and politicians to Formula 1 institutions like McLaren, Lamborghini and Aston Martin.

A true talent and a voice for the youth, Chan demonstrates that art encapsulates the pain, the freedom, the majestic strength of empowering yourself and how art convey a vision of coherence, softens pain and gives beauty and hope.
